Start a Chapter
Bring FLAIR to your university.
FLAIR started in Cincinnati, but fuzzy logic is a global community. Start a chapter wherever you are and join a network of fuzzy researchers supporting each other.
ProposedEverything on this page is a proposed starting point. Adapt it to your university and your members.
How it could work
1
Reach out
Tell us your university and who is with you. We will share what worked for us.
2
Find your people
Gather founding members and a faculty advisor. Check your university's rules for student organizations.
3
Adapt the starter kit
Use our documents and playbook as a starting point, then make them your own.
4
Register locally
Submit your organization through your student activities office.
5
Launch and connect
Hold your first meeting, then join the FLAIR network for shared events and virtual meetings.
Starter kit
Proposed materials from FLAIR UC. Take what helps.
Constitution and Bylaws
ProposedThe documents FLAIR UC registered with, ready to adapt.
Officer role charters and 30-60-90 day plans
ProposedWhat each officer could own, with first-month goals.
First-semester playbookProposedA proposed plan for your first 15 weeks.
- Weeks 1 to 2: Find 3 to 5 founding members and a faculty advisor.
- Weeks 3 to 4: Register your organization and set up a group chat and email list.
- Week 5: Hold your first meeting. Share the mission and elect officers.
- Weeks 6 to 10: Run one hands-on workshop (the scikit-fuzzy tipping example works well) and one social.
- Weeks 11 to 15: Pick a competition or conference to aim for, start fundraising and connect with other FLAIR chapters.
Sponsor pitch guideProposedA proposed outline for asking companies for support.
- Who you are, in one sentence.
- Why explainable, fuzzy AI matters to their industry.
- One clear ask, for example sponsoring one student's conference trip.
- What they receive, using the sponsor tiers.
- A follow-up note within one week.
Social media examplesProposedExample posts to borrow from. Write your own voice.
- Meet the Fuzzy Cats: we are a new student group exploring AI that can explain itself. First meeting this Monday.
- Fuzzy Fact Friday: is 24 °C warm? Fuzzy logic says 0.8 warm. That is how machines can reason the way people talk.
- Member win: congratulations to our member on their first fuzzy logic paper. Proud of you.
First meeting agendaProposedAn example one-hour agenda.
- 0:00 Welcome and introductions
- 0:10 What fuzzy logic is, with a 5-minute live demo
- 0:20 Mission, vision and plans for the semester
- 0:30 Officer elections or interest sign-ups
- 0:50 Next steps and how to stay in touch
Your chapter logo
Type your university's name, choose your colors and download your logo.
Shown as "AT THE ..." under the banner. Include "the" if your name needs it.
PNG works anywhere, like slides and social posts. SVG stays sharp at any size, for print and banners.
